From 9 August TfL will be carrying out planned escalator works which will complete in April 2019. These escalators link the ticket hall to the mid-concourse and westbound Central line platform. This is essential work to refurbish two escalators, one at a time.

During this time access to the station will be affected in the following ways:

  • Between 07.30 and 10.00 on weekday mornings, the station will operate asexit-only (as it currently does). In addition, westbound Central line trains will not stop at the station. Customers will be advised to use Bank station (8 minutes’ walk) or Chancery Lane station (14 minutes’ walk) and complete their journey at street level.
  • Between 16.00 and 19.30 on weekday evenings, westbound Central line services will be non-stopping at the station. The station will be very busy and customers will be strongly encouraged to use Bank station (8 minutes’ walk), Chancery Lane station (14 minutes’ walk), Barbican station (8 minutes’ walk) or Mansion House station (5 minutes’ walk).
  • During Night Tube (between 00:30 to 05:00 on Friday / Saturday night and Saturday / Sunday night) the station will operate asexit-only.
  • During all other times, exit from the station will be as normal, and customers entering the station will access the Central line platforms by using the 99 step fixed staircase.
