Lloyds Banking Group, one of the companies with an office in the Ward of Cheap, has been named the best employer in the country for promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) diversity. Another company based in the ward, Eversheds, has also been featured in the 2017 Stonewall Top 100 Employers Index (for the 9th year running!)
People perform better when they can be themselves. Employers can have a huge positive impact on the lives of their staff and the wider community.
Karin Cook, Group Director Operations at Lloyds Banking Group, articulates this really well: “our goals are to become the best bank for customers, a company that reflects the diversity of modern Britain in our workforce, and provides an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. Ensuring our LGBT colleagues are as engaged as other colleagues is important for meeting our commitments (…)”
It is great to see more initiatives being taken by City-based companies to increase diversity of their workforce. An inclusive approach makes complete business sense as well as simply being the right thing to do. If elected as Common Councilman I will encourage the Corporation to take an active role in promoting diversity in the City.
Rob Pitcher, Eversheds LGBT partner sponsor commented: “It is a great achievement to feature in the top 100 for eight consecutive years. At Eversheds, we embrace difference, accept people for who they are and promote an inclusive environment where people have a real opportunity to flourish and achieve their full potential.”
